Eagle Coach Honors Cincinnati Fallen Hero
Eagle Coach Company donated one of its finest funeral coaches for use during the recent funeral for Cincinnati native Matt Maupin, one of America’s fallen heroes. Maupin’s funeral was held at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati on Sunday, April 27th. More than 3,000 mourners attended the funeral service and thousands more lined the funeral route to pay their respects.
Maupin’s story gained national attention on April 9, 2004 when a videotape aired by Al-Jazeera showed Maupin surrounded by five hooded men holding automatic rifles. Maupin and one other member from his unit were captured after their convoy came under attack near the Baghdad airport on April 20, 2004. Maupin’s family hadn’t heard any additional news of their son until May 30, 2008 when his remains were positively identified and returned home four years after his capture.
“Eagle Coach Company is proud to serve America and its fallen hero in this small way. The new Echelon coach is our flagship vehicle and it was used for its highest calling at Matt’s funeral service,” said Mike McKiernan, Eagle Coach Company’s general manager.
Following the public funeral, he was laid to rest at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Clermont County, Ohio with a private ceremony.
